No. 1 seed North Carolina vs. Oakland

North Carolina (27-4) is the No. 1 seed in the 2005 NCAA Tournament Syracuse Regional, the NCAA announced on Sunday evening. The Tar Heels will play the winner of Tuesday's opening-round game between Alabama A&M (18-13) and Oakland (12-18) on Friday March 18 at the Charlotte Coliseum in Charlotte, N.C.

The game will be televised regionally by CBS.

The winner of Friday's contest will advance to Sunday's second-round game to face the winner of Friday's game between No. 8 seed Minnesota (21-10) and No. 9 seed Iowa State (18-11).

North Carolina is the only school in the nation whose men's and women's basketball teams are both No. 1 seeds in the 2005 NCAA Tournament. The Tar Heel women received a No. 1 seed in the 2005 NCAA Division I Women's Championship and will open play on March 20 in Chapel Hill against No. 16 seed Coppin State.

No. 1 seed Duke vs. No. 16 seed Delaware State

The Duke men's basketball team (25-5), fresh of it's 69-64 win over Georgia Tech to capture the 2005 ACC Championship, learned it will be a No. 1 seed in the 2005 NCAA Tournament. Duke will face MEAC Champion Delaware State (19-13) in the first round in Charlotte, N.C., at 7:25 p.m. Friday, March 18.

The Blue Devils and Hornets have never met on the hardwood, but Duke does own a 17-0 record over current members of the MEAC. This season marks Delaware State's first ever trip to the Big Dance.

Duke earned a No. 1 seed for the seventh time in the past eight seasons and for the ninth time overall since seeding was introduced in 1979. Duke has won three National Championships, all under current Coach Mike Krzyzewski, and the 1992 and 2001 titles came when Duke was a top seed.

Also in Charlotte and the Austin Regional are No. 8 seed Stanford and No. 9 seed Mississippi State. Duke owns an 0-2 record vs. both the Cardinal and the Bulldogs all-time.

No. 2 seed Wake Forest vs. No. 15 seed Chattanooga
Thursday, March 17, Cleveland, Ohio, CBS, 7:10 p.m.

Wake Forest has earned an at-large berth in the 2005 NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament. The Demon Deacons are the No. 2 seed in the Albuquerque region and will face 15th-seeded Chattanooga (20-10), champions of the Southern Conference in the first round. The game will be held at the Wolstein Center in Cleveland on the campus of Cleveland State University on Thursday.

All tickets for the Cleveland site are sold out.

The winner of that game will face either seventh-seeded West Virginia or 10th-seeded Creighton on Saturday.

Ten of Wake Forest's regular season opponents made the NCAA Tournament, including six non-conference foes. The complete list includes Arizona, Cincinnati, Duke, Illinois, Georgia Tech, George Washington, New Mexico, North Carolina, NC State and Texas. The Deacons went 10-4 in those games.

Wake Forest is making its 20th appearance in the NCAA Tournament. Last season, the Deacons reached the Sweet 16.

No. 5 seed Georgia Tech vs. No. 12 seed George Washington
Friday, March 18, Nashville, Tenn, CBS, 9:30 p.m.

Coming off its run to the Atlantic Coast Conference Tournament title game, Georgia Tech earned its 14th NCAA Tournament berth and is seeded fifth in the Albuquerque Regional. The Yellow Jackets (19-11) open the NCAA Tournament Friday against Atlantic 10 champion George Washington (22-7) in Nashville, Tenn.

Tipoff time for Friday's game will be announced Monday afternoon. The NCAA Tournament is televised by CBS (WGCL Channel 46 in Atlanta).

Georgia Tech's "pod" also includes fourth-seeded Louisville, which faces No. 13 seed Louisiana Lafayette, with the winners meeting Sunday for the right to advance to the Sweet 16 in Albuquerque, N.M.

No. 10 seed NC State vs. No. 7 seed Charlotte
Friday, March 18, Worcester, Mass., CBS, 12:15 p.m.

NC State (19-13) will play Charlotte on Friday in a first-round game in Worcester, Mass. It's the fourth consecutive trip to the NCAA Tournament for the Wolfpack, the second longest streak in school history. (The Pack went to five straight tournaments from 1985-89 under Jim Valvano.)

It is a difficult matchup. The No. 25 49ers (21-7) are the seventh-seed in the NCAA's Syracuse Regional, while the Wolfpack is a 10th seed.

N.C. State has played Charlotte on seven previous occasions, with the Wolfpack leading the series 5-2. The last meeting was at the RBC Center on Nov. 18, 2000, with Charlotte winning, 95-78.
