CARY, N.C. - The Wake Forest Demon Deacons registered a late goal in the first overtime period to down Virginia Tech 1-0 in the first quarterfinal match-up of the 2004 ACC Men's Soccer Championship. Wake Forest's Mark Ellington was credited with the game-winner at the 97:56 mark in the first overtime.

The Demon Deacons and Hokies played to a scoreless first half as both teams combined to take nine shots and four corners. Wake Forest held the shot advantage 7-2, while Virginia Tech posted a 3-1 edge in corner kicks. The Hokies' Chase Harrison was credited with the lone save in the first half.

The second half was a replica of the first as the score remained deadlock at 0-0. Wake Forest out shot Virginia Tech 8-2 in the second half, while both teams registered one corner apiece. Harrison had three saves and Brian Edwards of Wake Forest had one.

With just over two minutes remaining in the first overtime period, Wake Forest's Amir Lowery fed Justin Moose who found Ellington for the game-winner. Moose played the ball across the goal to Ellington, who deposited the ball into the back of the net, sending the Demon Deacons into the conference semifinals for the sixth consecutive season. It was Ellington's second goal of the season.

The win moves Wake Forest to 13-4-1 on the season and into the semifinals where they will face the winner of the Virginia/Duke match-up on Friday, November 12 at 5:30 pm. With the loss, Virginia Tech falls to 9-10-1 on the season.
