CARY, N.C. - The Maryland Terrapins moved into the semifinals of the 2004 ACC Men's Soccer Championship with a 2-0 win over the Clemson Tigers Wednesday night at the SAS Soccer Complex. Senior forward Abe Thompson registered the game-winner off a penalty kick at 15:49 of the first half. The win advances the Terrapins into the semifinals of the conference tournament for the third consecutive year.

Maryland struck for an early 1-0 lead when the Terps were awarded a penalty kick in the 16th minute of action. Thompson connected on the pk for his 11th goal of the season to remain perfect (3-for-3) in penalty kicks on the year. With the score, Thompson became the all-time leading scorer at Maryland with 110 points running his career numbers to 43 goals and 24 assists.

In the second half, the Terrapins increased their lead to 2-0 off a goal from Jason Garey. It was his team leading 17th score of the season. Freshman Stephen King was credited with the assist as he fed Garey, who deposited the ball into the lower left corner of the net from 10 yards out to solidify the victory.

The win moves Maryland to 14-4-1 on the season and into the semifinals where they will face the winner of the North Carolina/NC State match-up on Friday, November 12 at 8:00 pm. With the loss, Clemson falls to 8-9-1 on the year.
