CARY, N.C. - The fifth-seeded Duke Blue Devils registered a 2-0 victory over the fourth-seeded Virginia Tech Hokies Wednesday afternoon in the first quarterfinal match of the 2005 ACC Men's Soccer Championship. The Blue Devils' Chase Perfect netted the game-winner with less than two minutes remaining in the first half to advance Duke into the semifinals for the first time since 2000.

The first 40 minutes included a combined four shots, two by each team, and 18 fouls en route to a first half defensive struggle for both teams. But Duke would break through with the game's first goal in the 44th minute off the only corner kick of the half. Perfect used a header off the corner for his first goal of the season and a 1-0 Blue Devil advantage. Tomek Charowski and Chris Loftus were each credited with an assist on the play.

Duke would seal the victory with 1.4 seconds left in the match as Zach Pope sent a perfectly placed shot from midfield into an empty Hokie net for his fourth goal of the season.

The Blue Devils' Justin Papadakis made a pair of saves in posting his sixth shutout of the season. Chase Harrison made five saves in net to pace Virginia Tech.

The win moves Duke to 11-4-2 on the season and into the semifinals where they will face the winner of Maryland/Wake Forest on Friday, November 11 at 5:30 pm. With the loss, Virginia Tech falls to 10-5-4 on the season.
