LEXINGTON, Va. -- Maryland sophomore Andrew Schlaffer defeated Virginia's Drew Dipasquale 10-4 to capture the ACC title at 149 pounds. With the win, Schlaffer automatically qualifies for the NCAA Tournament in two weeks. As a team, the Terps finished fourth with 48 points.

Maryland's Brendan Byrne (133) and Adam James (157) each advanced to the finals, but were defeated in the championship bout.

North Carolina won the tournament with a total of 90.5 points, outdistancing NC State (64) and Virginia (61).

Schlaffer, who was the tournament's No. 1 seed, edged North Carolina's Chris Ramos 3-2 in the semifinals where he met Dipasquale. The two met two weeks ago in Charlottesville, with Schlaffer winning that matchup 11-3. The result Saturday was not much different as Schlaffer cruised to the 10-4 victory. He is now 24-12 on the year.

Byrne advanced to the finals after defeating NC State's Garrett Cummings 5-3 in overtime. UNC's Jared Royer, who edged top-seeded Eric Albright of Virginia in the semifinals 5-4, defeated second-seeded Byrne 6-3 in the finals.

James picked up a 10-1 major decision over Deon Barrett before falling to top-seeded Kody Hamrah in the championship.

James Knox (125) and Alex Krom (141) took third for the Terps. Mike Maceroli came up with a fourth-place finish.

With 10 spots locked up for the NCAA Tournament, the coaches will now choose three wild cards to participate at the NCAA Tournament. The wild cards will be released Sunday morning.
