![]() Duke Extends Lead In Day Two Of ACC Women's Golf

April 16, 2005 Charlotte, NC - The Duke Blue Devils extended their lead to 34 strokes over Wake Forest and the rest of the field at the 17th Atlantic Coast Conference Women's Golf Championship. Blue Devils Liz Janangelo and Anna Grzebien are tied for the top individual spot heading into the third and final round on Sunday. Duke golfers hold each of the top four spots. Niloufar Aazam-Zanganeh birdied the last two holes to finish with a 71 on Saturday. It was the only under-par round of the tournament so far. Janangelo shot even in round two to improve her tournament total to 148. Grzebien and Brittany Lang each shot two-over on day two, for tournament totals of 148 and 149, respectively. Wake Forest's Mandy Goins, the individual leader after round one, currently stands in sixth place, after her second round 81. Christine Hallstrom, the only other Deacon in the top-10, carded a 79 on Saturday to tie for tenth after two rounds. Ashley Hoagland and Laura Crawford brought in scores of 78 and 80 on Saturday. They are tied for 13th and 22nd, respectively. Wake Forest, Virginia and North Carolina State are in a tight race after two rounds. The Cavaliers (631), paced by Leah Wigger's two-day 156 are just ahead of Ashlee Dean (157) and the Wolfpack (633). The Deacons are in second place with a combined 628. Tina Miller of Miami stands in fifth place with her three-over 75 on Saturday. She and the Hurricanes are two strokes ahead of Florida State. North Carolina and Maryland round out the remainder of the field, with scores of 653 and 659, respectively. Tar Heel Ann Laney is tied for seventh after rounds of 76 and 79. The Seminoles' Jaclyn Burch is +13 on the weekend and Terp Jessica Reno is +14. Friday's windy conditions allowed for only 11 scores of 79 or better of the 40-member field. Saturday, not as windy, but much cooler, saw just 21 scores in the 70's at the par 72, 6,318 yard course.
