Nov. 1, 2005 GREENSBORO, N.C. - The North Carolina Tar Heels, who finished as the regular season champs in 2005 with a record of 17-1-0, 9-1-0 in league play, led all teams with five honorees on this season's All-Conference teams. Virginia placed four members on the All-Conference teams, while the Clemson Tigers, Duke Blue Devils and Florida State Seminoles each had three student-athletes selected. Maryland and Wake Forest each had two selections, while Boston College had one. Florida State and Virginia led all schools with three student-athletes each represented on the 2005 All-ACC Freshman team. Boston College, Duke, North Carolina, NC State and Virginia Tech rounded out the team with one selection apiece. North Carolina's Heather O'Reilly was honored as the ACC Offensive Player of the Year. O'Reilly is the leading scorer for the Tar Heels in 2005 as she has netted 15 goals and is second on the team in assists with nine. The 15 goals is one shy of her season-high (16) set as a freshman in 2003. The junior forward leads the ACC in points (39) and goals scored (15) and is second in shots with 59. Carolyn Ford of Duke was tabbed ACC Defensive Player of the Year in 2005. Ford leads a defense that is tied for the league lead in goals allowed (9) and second in goals against average at 0.51. Duke is on pace to finish the season with the fewest goals allowed and lowest GAA, a mark previously set back in 1988 when the Blue Devils allowed 13 goals and posted a 0.74 GAA in their inaugural season. Virginia's Jessica Rostedt was named the ACC Freshman of the Year. In her first year with the Cavaliers, Rostedt led the team in shots with 48, while sharing the team lead in goals (8) and points (20). She tallied a pair of game-winning goals in 2005 leading Virginia to victory against conference foes Duke and Florida State. The forward from Kent, Ohio becomes the second Cavalier in the last three years to earn the honor. In his first season at the helm of Florida State, Mark Krikorian was selected as the ACC Coach of the Year. Krikorian led the Seminoles to their best regular season and ACC record in school history with an overall mark of 16-2-0, 8-2-0 in league play good for a tie for second place. After starting the season unranked, Krikorian now has the Seminoles in the top 10 in three national polls and as high as No. 5 according to Soccer Buzz. Krikorian becomes the first Florida State coach to receive the honor.
