Duke Advances To Semifinals With 2-0 Win Over Boston College Nov. 2, 2005
CARY, N.C. - Duke's Darby Kroyer registered the game-winner at 4:56 in the first half to lead the Blue Devils to a 2-0 victory over Boston College in the first round of the 2005 ACC Women's Soccer Championship. Kate Seibert tallied two assists in the game as Duke advances to the semifinals to face North Carolina on Friday afternoon at 5:00 p.m. Duke scored first as Kroyer netted her fifth goal of the season. Seibert assisted on the goal as she found Kroyer on the left side of the box from 15 yards out to give the Blue Devils an early 1-0 lead. Duke added to its lead in the 73rd minute when Sarah McCabe netted the goal off an assist from Seibert, her second of the evening. After a Boston College turnover in Blue Devil territory, Seibert took a shot from 18 yards out that was deflected by Eagle goalie Arianna Criscione. McCabe collected the rebound and finished the play for her fifth goal of the season. The Blue Devil victory, along with wins by North Carolina, Virginia and Florida State on Wednesday, marks the first time since 1999 that all four top seeds advanced to semifinals of the ACC Championship. The victory moves Duke to 13-4-1 on the season and into the semifinals where they will face the Tar Heels on Friday, November 4 at 5:00 pm. With the loss, Boston College falls to 11-5-2 on the season.
