CARY, N.C. - North Carolina held off a late Duke charge in the last eight minutes of the game to advance to its 18th straight tournament final downing the Blue Devils 2-1 in the first semifinal of the ACC Women's Soccer Championship Friday evening. The Tar Heels scored less than five minutes into the start of the game and controlled the offensive tempo out shooting Duke 17-2 including an 8-0 edge in the first half. Senior Kacey White added the game-winner for the Tar Heels in the 68th minute registering her fifth point of the tournament.

North Carolina struck first off a header from Jaime Gilbert at 4:21 in the first half. Lori Chalupny collected an assist on the play sending a cross from the right wing into the box where Gilbert redirected the shot with a header into the lower left corner of the net. The goal by Gilbert was her second of the tournament and ninth of the season.

The Tar Heels added to their lead in the 68th minute as White netted her eighth goal of the season off an assist from Yael Averbuch. White gathered the lofted pass from the freshman midfielder and delivered the score from 16 yards out to give North Carolina a two goal advantage.

Duke cut into the Tar Heel lead when Darby Kroyer one-timed a shot from 35 yards out in the 83rd minute of play. Carmen Bognanno started the scoring play as she fed Rebecca Moros, who collected the pass and dished to Kroyer for the goal. The blast for Kroyer was her second of the tournament and sixth of the season. She now has scored four goals over the last seven games for the Blue Devils.

North Carolina's Anna Rodenbough earned the victory in goal for the Tar Heels as she registered her first complete game of the season. Allison Lipsher made six saves in net for the Blue Devils.

The victory moves North Carolina to 19-1-0 on the season where they will face the winner of Virginia/Florida State on Sunday, November 6 at 2:00 pm. With the loss, Duke falls to 13-5-1.
