COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The seventh-seeded Virginia Tech Hokies defeated the fifth-seeded North Carolina Tar Heels, 4-0, Friday evening at the Terrapin Softball Complex in game seven of the 2005 ACC Softball Tournament. Hokie senior catcher Megan Evans blasted a pair of two-run home runs to left field to lift Virginia Tech to victory.

Virginia Tech took an early 2-0 lead after Evans hit a two-run shot that just cleared the left field fence for her conference leading 13th homer of the season. With two outs in the top of the third, Hokie shortstop Alisia Narodowski singled to right field to keep the inning alive. Evans then stepped up to the plate and connected on an 0-1 delivery from Tar Heel hurler Crystal Cox to give Virginia Tech a two run advantage.

In the top of the fifth, the Hokies' Kelly Brown extended her school-record hit streak to 22 consecutive games with a lead-off double to the gap in left center field.

Virginia Tech would add two more runs in the top of the seventh as Evans went yard for the second time in the game with her second, two-run homer. On the play, Evans became the first player in ACC Tournament history to hit two home runs in a single game. Crystal Beach scored on the play as she pinch ran for Narodowski, who drew a lead-off walk.

In the seventh, Katie Maynard replaced Tincher in the circle and gave up a lead-off walk to Jennifer Jacobs. UNC's Joslin Higgins reached base on a fielding error by Narodowski leaving runners on first and second with no outs. After a fielder's choice groundout at third and an infield pop-up to the second baseman, the Tar Heel runners advanced to second and third after a wild pitch. But Maynard closed the door on the Tar Heels as she struck out Julia Bove to end the game.

Tincher registered her second win of the tournament as she hurled six innings of shut out ball to move to 19-7 on the season. She held the Tar Heels scoreless, scattering three hits and striking out nine. Cox went six innings for North Carolina allowing four runs on six hits while striking out nine. Senior Ashley Allen replaced Cox in the seventh and retired all three batters she faced.

With the win Virginia Tech moves to 41-22 on the season and will face the winner of NC State/Maryland on Saturday, May 14 at 3:30 pm. The loss runs North Carolina's record to 36-27 and eliminated the Tar Heels from tournament play.
